Grade 11
September
- CAS experiences begin the first day of school in September of your grade 11 year. Experiences undertaken before the first day of school of your grade 11 year will not qualify for CAS.
- Introduction to CAS at the Grade 11 meeting by CAS advisor (Mr. Bergman/Mr. Timms) in September.
- Submit completed CAS checklist 24 hours after this meeting, after reviewing the website on your own/with your parents
- Make an appointment to meet with your CAS advisor for your first interview.
- Begin to plan (maybe even undertake) CAS experiences and/or Start electronically submitting Experience Proposal forms to your CAS advisor.
- Start planning your CAS Collaborative Project and electronically submit a proposal form for it.
- Attend Introductory Interview with the CAS Advisor
- Carry out experiences (fill out Experience Log) that you have proposed and collect evidence as you go.
- Begin to complete a reflection form for an experience that you have finished in preparation for your January interview. (Please feel free to submit them to your CAS advisor before the interview.) Choose an experience to reflect upon that has had an impact on your development in some manner, keeping in mind the need to meet the seven learning outcomes required by the CAS program.
- Continue to carry out experiences that you have proposed and collect evidence as you go.
- Make an appointment to discuss progress with your CAS advisor for your second interview (bring your Experience Log to the appointment).
- Update your advisor on your CAS Project progress.
- Submit a Reflection Form electronically for one completed experience.
- If progress at this point is not satisfactory, the IB Coordinator will contact parents/guardians to discuss any concerns.
- Continue to carry out experiences that you have proposed and collect evidence as you go. Always keep your eyes and mind open so you will be prepared to seize CAS Experience opportunities as they arise. (Then be sure to electronically submit Experience Proposal forms for them.)
- Keep in mind you will need to complete two reflection forms for any experiences that you have finished and submit them to your CAS advisor in preparation for your May interview. You can submit these at any time during these months; it may be a solid time management decision not to leave them until the end of April.
- Make an interview appointment to see your CAS advisor for your third interview (bring your Experience Log to the interview).
- Submit Reflection Forms electronically for two more completed experiences if you have not already done so.
- Your CAS programme should be at least 1/2 complete by the end of this month.
- If progress is still not satisfactory at this point, the IB Coordinator will consult with the student and their parents/guardians regarding the continued enrollment of the student in the full IB Diploma Program.
- Continue to carry out experiences that you have proposed and collect evidence as you go.
- Plan summer CAS activities.
- Vacation – time for outside school CAS experiences.
- CAS experiences should be continued to be carried out, recorded and reflected upon.
Grade 12
September
October/November
- Continue to undertake CAS experiences and collect evidence
- Make an appointment to discuss concerns you have with CAS advisors if you have any questions or concerns.
October/November
- Sign up for an appointment time to see the CAS advisor to discuss progress. Bring your Experience Log to the interview.
- Complete and electronically submit a Reflection Form (found under the Steps to Success tab) for your Collaborative Project and submit it to your CAS advisor. Choose an experience to reflect upon that has had an impact on your development in some manner, keeping in mind the need to meet the seven learning outcomes required by the CAS program.
- Continue to complete CAS experiences and collect evidence.
- You should be close to being completed all CAS requirements.
- Compile your evidence that illustrates how you have met the seven learning outcomes into a portfolio.
- You are getting close to the end of this epic journey! See your CAS advisor to discuss next steps if you are unsure.
- Electronically submit a final reflection on your OVERALL CAS experience to your advisor.
- You are behind and may not earn your Diploma if you are not in the final stages of producing your portfolio product.
- Prepare for and participate in the final CAS Showcase to present and defend your CAS experience.
- CAS Completion Form is sent to IB. Woohoo!.....(that is if all requirements have been met.)
